The interdisciplinary topics are special research themes that are highlighted by the symposium. Students may select the theme that best describes their research. If your research does not fit well with one of the themes, you may submit a 3–4 word theme that describes your work, and we will do our best to integrate your research into the spirit of the symposium. Abstracts without a specified theme will be considered in a per-department selection process.

Students must indicate their preference for an oral presentation (10min), poster presentation or research elevator pitch presentation (3min) during abstract submission. The allocation of abstracts to oral presentations and elevator pitch presentations is competitive. The 400 word abstract will be used in the review process and will be published in the printed symposium program. If you have recently published outstanding work or expect to present it soon at another venue, please consider sharing your work with the U of A community, as well by presenting at FEGRS 2019.

Abstracts will be reviewed anonymously by faculty members in each department. Submitted abstracts will be evaluated for writing, grammar, content, comprehensiveness, and relevance to the selected theme. Abstracts should contain a clear description of the objective and rationale of the project, methodology, results, and practical implications. Reviewers' comments for the submitted abstracts will not be provided.

NOTE: A full length paper submission is not required for this symposium. If your abstract is selected, you will have to prepare only a presentation or a poster.
